Travel Bloggers on Our Top Destinations

At Globehunters we like nothing better than writing about our top destinations and showing all the wonderful things there are to see and do around the world. This week we’ve picked a selection of articles from some of our favourite travel blogs, for a different take on our most popular destinations.

Bangkok

One of our most popular destinations is Thai capital Bangkok, which serves as a popular entry point to Thailand and the rest of Asia from the UK. Far more than just a transport hub, Bangkok has plenty of attractions in its own right, with distinctive architecture, outrageous nightlife and all sorts of weird and wonderful food.

As you’d expect from a city of over 8 million people, there’s a huge variety of gastronomic delights on offer. Unquestionably one of the most unusual places to eat is Icedea – a café that serves ice cream like nothing you’ve seen before.

As Anna from Bangkok Girl Blog explains, the imaginative café serves ice cream with flavours as leftfield as mushroom, beer and ‘cornflakes and milk’. Thai Islands

From Bangkok, the next move for many UK tourists is to head south to the Thai islands. Whilst some of the better-known islands like Koh Samui and Phuket are established tourist destinations, with hundreds of islands dotted around the Gulf of Siam and the Andaman Sea there are plenty of quieter options for those in the know.

Joe Fylan’s in-depth article '10 of the best undiscovered Thai islands for travel snobs’ for travel magazine GlobalGrasshopper identifies some of the lesser-visited Thai islands and their best features. Our favourite is the blissfully undeveloped Koh Bulon Lae. The protected island of Ko Tarutao with its abundant wildlife also looks idyllic.

Orlando

Orlando is always a hugely popular destination with Globehunters customers, with the various theme parks still drawing UK tourists in impressive numbers. Whilst there’s easily enough to do in Orlando’s theme parks to fill a typical family holiday, there’s more to Orlando than just Disney. As well as the unspoilt beaches of Florida’s coasts, there’s also plenty to do in and around Orlando itself.

‘A Day in Orlando, Minus the Mouse’ by Jenna from Wander the Map takes a different look at Orlando and provides some interesting alternatives away from the theme parks. A few hours experiencing a taste of central Florida at U Pick Citrus sounds like a great antidote to rollercoaster burnout!

New York

Whilst Orlando is very much geared towards holidays with children, New York is a less obvious destination for family trips. That said, it’s definitely possible to take in all the essential sights of The Big Apple with kids in tow, and have loads of fun along the way.

Erin and Josh from Travel with Bender have plenty of experience of travelling to far flung destinations with their young children. In ‘Playing the Tourist..’, they pack in some of the most famous sights including: Times Square, Rockerfeller Plaza, the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty - check out the great views of the New York skyline and Liberty Island!
